It is an institution of higher learning approved by the Ministry of Education of China. Founded in 1981, the university has undergone significant development over the past 40 years. Its liberal arts disciplines have consistently ranked first among private universities nationwide, and it is ranked second in the "2024 Academic Ranking of Chinese Private Universities (Language)."
The university has two campuses, Jishan and Jinghu, covering an area of nearly 1,600 acres, with 14 secondary colleges; it has more than 1,200 faculty and staff members and over 17,000 full-time students. It offers 51 undergraduate programs, covering 17 foreign languages, making it the university with the most foreign language disciplines and distinctive features in Zhejiang Province. It has formed a good pattern of coordinated development of multiple disciplines, with foreign language literature as its advantage and educational digitalization as its characteristic, including literature, economics, management, art, education, engineering, etc. It has 2 provincial first-class disciplines (Chinese language and literature, foreign language and literature); 4 national first-class undergraduate program construction points (translation, Chinese international education, Japanese, Korean), 10 provincial first-class undergraduate program construction points, 2 national first-class undergraduate courses, and 97 provincial first-class undergraduate courses.
The university is a member of the "UN Academic Impact" organization and has continuously improved its scientific research and teaching research levels in recent years. It has initiated 61 national-level scientific research projects and more than 150 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects. The "Northeast Asia Research Center" and the "African Great Lakes Region Research Center" have been selected as the national country and regional research centers by the Ministry of Education. In 2021, the university was selected as one of the first batch of "School-Enterprise Collaborative Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Demonstration Practice Bases" in the country.
The university is a "Provincial International Cultural Exchange Base" and has cooperated with more than 180 universities and educational institutions in more than 30 countries and regions, sending hundreds of students abroad for exchange, study, and further education every year.
